NDT welcomes Dane Sherry as the newest member of our professional driver education staff. Dane is licensed through Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation as a Driver Education Teaching Assistant and is certified through the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Third Party Driver License Examiner. Dane has 45 years of driving experience and more than 20 years of experience in training. He started his adult career in as EMT in a very rural area of the Texas Panhandle. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 8 ½ years as a Medical Service Specialist. During his enlistment, he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving as the Assistant Non-Commissioned Officer-In-Charge of the Cardiac Care Unit at Wilford Hall Medical Center on Lackland AFB, San Antonio. One of his primary duties was training. While serving in the USAF, Dane completed his Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. After leaving the USAF, Dane was selected and joined the Austin Police Department. Dane served as a patrol officer, field training officer, and District Representative for several east Austin neighborhoods. Dane retired from Austin PD and went to work for the Texas Department of Public Safety in the Driver License Division as a Driver License Examiner where he conducted thousands of driver examinations. He was later promoted to become the first Lead Driver License Examiner for DPSDLD. His duties consisted of supervisory duties and training. Dane retired from DPS to spend more time with his daughter during her high school years. Dane came out of retirement to work as a driving instructor and third-party driver license examiner for NDT. He accepted the position because he enjoys teaching new drivers the skills and techniques to become safer and more competent drivers. When not working with new drivers, Dane loves to travel with his family and finding the best Asian, hamburger or pizza restaurants.
